Global Celebrations

Each month, our Global Celebrations Committee will spotlight cultural events and holidays recognized by members of the Chatsworth community. From Diwali and Black History Month to LGBTQ+ Pride Month—and so much more—we’re excited to learn from and celebrate the many cultures, identities, languages, and traditions that make our school community so vibrant.

This initiative is the result of ongoing collaboration between PTA representatives and building administrators, with the shared goal of helping our students become thoughtful, curious global citizens. By recognizing and honoring diverse cultural experiences, we aim to create a more inclusive and welcoming school environment for all.

Families are invited to take part in this journey! We’re offering optional, meaningful opportunities for you to visit your child’s class and share a holiday, tradition, or language that holds significance in your home. Whether it’s a story, a song, or a simple show-and-tell, your voice helps build a bridge between home and school.

We deeply appreciate the support of our teachers and families as we launch this program and look forward to growing together. If your family is celebrating something this month, let us know—we can’t wait to hear from you!

This month at Chatsworth we are celebrating Diwali — the Festival of Lights, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains in India and around the world with lights, fireworks, food and prayer. Diwali marks the beginning of the Hindu new year and honors the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. People decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps called diyas. The lights and lamps are said to help Lakshmi find her way into peoples’ homes, bringing prosperity in the year to come! The festival also symbolizes the victory of good over evil and light over darkness, reminding us to reflect, look into our hearts, and shine our inner light on others.

If Diwali is meaningful to your family, you are welcomed and encouraged to talk to your child's class teacher to organize a celebration or send information in. Learn more about Diwali here
